Recently released preliminary estimates from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are showing an increase in the number of pedestrian accidents and fatalities for the first time in four years. Strangely, this increase in pedestrian deaths is coming at the same time that overall traffic related deaths fell by eight percent. There are some who feel that these recently released statistics are a precursor to a growing trend in pedestrian accidents.

There's an old adage that states that "everything gets better with age." While this may be true of wine or collectables, it isn't necessarily true of people's ability to drive after entering their golden years. To continue driving safely and avoid car accidents, older adults need to understand how and why driving ability may decline as they age. It may be difficult to honestly evaluate their own driving situation, but the elderly need to take proactive steps to improve their driving habits while reducing any possible safety issues.

There are basic maintenance tips that most drivers adhere to in the upkeep of their vehicles - regular oil changes / checking oil, filling windshield wiper fluid, checking headlights, etc. But, how many drivers regularly check the tires or even think of the tires when conducting weekly or monthly maintenance? Failing to take this critical step may unfortunately increase your risk of being in a car accident.
